The Elgin Rural Fire Protection District exists to protect lives, property, and the environment across our community. We respond to everything from structure fires and vehicle accidents to medical emergencies and hazardous material calls — always with speed, professionalism, and care.
Our district covers Elgin, North Dakota and the surrounding rural areas. We work closely with local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and county agencies to ensure a coordinated response whenever emergencies occur.
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
Create and practice a home fire escape plan with two ways out of every room. Meet at a designated spot outside and never go back inside during a fire.
Never leave cooking unattended on the stove. Keep flammable items away from heat sources, and keep a fire extinguisher accessible in the kitchen.
Have furnaces and chimneys inspected annually. Keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn, and never leave them running overnight.
Our team can visit your home or business to identify hazards and ensure your property meets fire safety standards.
Elgin Rural Fire Protection District is more than an emergency response team — we're your neighbors. We participate in local events, host open houses, and welcome community members to learn about fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
Whether you're interested in volunteering, attending a safety workshop, or simply learning more about the services we provide, we'd love to hear from you.
